HM Queen Elizabeth II

It is with great sadness that, following the celebrations earlier this summer to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I now find myself writing to you all so soon after, in relation to her passing.

The Jubilee was a wonderful opportunity to be reminded of the enormous sacrifice that our Queen has made for this country in her lifetime. Hers was a life of service, representing our nation’s interests both at home and around the world, and so, as a School, it is important that we reflect on what this has meant for all of us. She was a shining example of three of our core School values: Make a difference, Respect and Love. She worked tirelessly for us all and at times of national crisis the country looked to her for the steadfast leadership upon which we could depend. In this tumultuous political climate, it has been reassuring that our Queen has been an unchanging foundation, ever-present to see out the storms.

We understand that this news will affect different people in different ways. The Yatton Schools community comes together in difficult times, and we will do so again now. We will be sure to provide our usual high standards of pastoral care to all members of our School.

The Juniors will have a special assembly in the morning to recognise this significant event and class teachers will be reflecting in an age-appropriate manner with the children in the Infant and Junior School.

Further information regarding how the country will pay its respects will be clear in the coming days. At that time, we will write again to explain how the arrangements might affect us as a School. We will commemorate the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth as a community in our own way, and we will, in time, look to establish a more permanent memorial to her extraordinary service.

With kind regards,

Jo Keeble
