EYFS/Reception
The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum supports children’s learning and development from the age of three through to the end of the Reception year. It provides the essential knowledge, skills, and experiences that form strong foundations for future learning and a successful transition into Year 1.
By the time children start in the Infant School, they have already learnt a great deal. In Reception, we build on this through a carefully sequenced curriculum that is taught through a balance of whole-class teaching, small-group work, and planned opportunities within continuous provision. This approach ensures that all children are explicitly taught key knowledge and skills and are given time to practise, apply, and deepen their learning in meaningful contexts.
Well-planned play forms an important part of learning in Reception. It allows children to consolidate taught learning, develop independence, and build confidence, while adults support, challenge, and extend learning through purposeful interactions. Continuous provision is carefully designed to reflect current learning and curriculum priorities and is adapted across the year to support increasing focus, independence, and readiness for Year 1 expectations.
This balanced approach supports children to develop strong early literacy and mathematical understanding, positive learning behaviours, and the social and communication skills needed to succeed as learners.
