Our Well-being Offer

School Provision

Supporting the mental health of our children, staff and families is central to our Yatton School ethos. We are committed to supporting the mental health of our children by investing valuable curriculum time to the development of children's social and emotional learning and well-being. We use our Yatton Learner values to underpin school assemblies and use every opportunity we can to help develop these values throughout the curriculum.

Examples of our whole school Provision

  • Mental Health Champions Team – comprised of adults throughout the school with specialist knowledge and interest.
  • Mental Health Lead
  • 3 Mental Health First Aiders (2 day training)
  • 14 Mental Health First Aiders (1/2 day)
  • Healthy school's Week
  • Anti-Bullying Week and a strong anti-bullying culture
  • Anti-bullying Ambassadors with a strong link to the Diana Award
  • Regular opportunities to perform to parents
  • Outdoor and adventurous activities e.g Morfa Bay in year 6
  • School trips
  • Yatton Learner of the week with a postcard home, celebration assembly and hot chocolate Friday with the head teacher
  • Social thinking groups
  • Learning mentors (1 for each school)
  • Educational Mental Health Practitioner onsite twice a week
  • Acknowledge World Mental Health Week/Day
  • Support from specialists within the Lighthouse Schools Partnership and the Local Authority to work with individual children
  • We have an in-school nurture hub, following the Nurture UK programme.
  • Learning college
  • Quiet zones in the playgrounds (for reading, chatting, drawing, colouring)
  • Well-being pass for the library at lunchtimes
  • Nurture Hub for referrals from year 1, 2 and 3
  • Healthy School network group including work towards the Healthy Schools Award
  • Strong links with mental health and SEN specialists
  • Parent workshops run by the MHST

  • Circle time and PSHE
  • Mindfulness activities such as yoga, breathing exercises, meditation
  • Mental health check in boards
  • Forest school activities
  • Soft starts to the day
  • Regular check in conversations with LSA/TA/Teacher
