PSHE incl Health and Relationships

PSHE - Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

including Health Education, Relationship Education and Sex Education

At Yatton Schools, we want every child to develop as healthy, confident, independent and responsible members of society. Through our PSHE curriculum, we encourage our children to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider cultural community. We aim to develop children who are reflective and who have a strong awareness and respect for the well-being of others and their own selves.

Our children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of their school and communities. In doing so they learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning. They reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. They learn to understand and respect our common humanity, diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.

In our school we choose to deliver Personal, Social, Health Education using the Jigsaw scheme, ‘the mindful approach to PSHE’, as do many other primary schools. This includes our provision for Relationship Education and Health Education (which became mandatory for primary schools from September 2020) and Sex Education (included as part of the Jigsaw 'Changing Me' unit).

More information on the content we cover across our schools and further information on the Jigsaw programme can be found by clicking the links below.

More detailed information about the Content of the Jigsaw Scheme can be accessed via the Parent Portal on our website: Go to ‘Yatton Schools’ then ‘For Parents’: ‘Parent Portal’. You will need to put in your username and password which has been emailed out but is available on request. Paper copies also available on request.

Please take time to read our policy (see link below) and about our provision for PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education. We review and re-evaluate our policy and teaching approaches regularly and very much welcome feedback from parents as part of this ongoing process. We will respond individually to any feedback or suggestions as to how we might improve or develop our policy and provision and let you know of any decisions we make to update our policy.

Parents/carers: If you have any questions or wish to provide feedback on our PSHE/Relationships and Sex Education policy and/or teaching programme, please message Mr Heywood: jheywood@yattonschools.co.uk
